Composition:
Eracef ® vet 1 g IM Injection: Each vial contains sterile Ceftriaxone Sodium USP equivalent to
1 g Ceftriaxone.
Eracef ® vet 2 g IV Injection: Each vial contains sterile Ceftriaxone Sodium USP equivalent to
2 g Ceftriaxone.
Eracef® vet 2 g IM Injection: Each vial contains sterile Ceftriaxone Sodium USP equivalent to
2 g Ceftriaxone.
Description:
Ceftriaxone is a third generation, semisynthetic, broad-spectrum Cephalosporin antibiotic for
intravenous or intramuscular administration. It has a remarkable stability against
ß-lactamases, Penicillinases and Cephalosporinases of both gram-positive and gram-negative
bacteria. Ceftriaxone is bactericidal in action as it inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell
wall.
Indications:
Eracef ® vet injection is indicated for the following infections caused by susceptible organisms:
Respiratory Tract Infections (lungs), skin & its stuctural infections, bone & joint infections,
Gastro-intestinal tract infections (Intra abdominal), Acute bacterial otitis media and urinary
tract infections. In acute and severe infections caused by sensitive micro-organisms viz
Mastitis, Metritis, Septicemia, Pneumonia, Meningitis, Haemorrhagic Septicemia, Black
Quarter, Anthrax, Foot Rot, Pre Operative Prophylaxis & Post Operative Infections etc
Dosage & Administration:
Ceftriaxone may be administered by deep intramuscular injection or slow intravenous injection.

Preparation of Solutions:
For intramuscular injection: Add 3.5 ml of Lidocaine Hydrochloride BP 1% injection to 1 g
Eracef ® vet vial whereas 7 ml of Lidocaine Hydrochloride BP 1% injection to 2 g Eracef ® vet
vial and shake the vial well until the powder is dissolved properly. For intravenous injection:
Add 10 ml of Water for Injection BP to 1 g Eracef ® vet vial whereas 20 ml of Water for
Injection BP to 2 g Eracef ® vet vial and shake the vial well until the powder is dissolved
properly. The use of freshly reconstituted solution is recommended. However, it maintains
potency for at least 6 hours at room temperature or 24 hours at 5oC.
Contraindications:
Ceftriaxone is contraindicated to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Cephalosporin
antibiotics. Risk-benefit should be considered when the following medical problems exist :
Bleeding disorders, severe Hepatic dysfunction & Renal insufficiency
Adverse Reactions/Side Effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions acute anaphylaxis or angioedema, allergic agranulocytosis, fever,
serum sickness, urticaria, diarrhea, thrombocytosis etc.
Precautions:
Do not administer Eracef ® vet (Ceftriaxone) IV dissolved with 1% Lidocaine Hydrochloride
injection BP.
Pregnancy/Reproduction: Studies in laboratory animals have not shown the cephalosporins
to cause adverse effects in the fetus.
Lactation: Cephalosporins are distributed into milk; however when Cephalosporins are
administered systemically at accepted doses, therapeutic concentrations are not reached in milk.
Drug Interactions: The admixture of beta-lactam antibacterials (Penicillins and
Cephalosporins) and chloramphenical may result in substantial mutual inactivation.
Sometimes Cephalosporins can cause diarrhea.
Withdrawal Period: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies available.
Storage:
Store in a cool & dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.

Sodium USP equivalent to 1 g Ceftriaxone, 1 ampoule of 3.5 ml 1% Lidocaine Hydrochloride
injection BP and one 5 ml disposable syringe with needle.
Eracef ® vet 2 g IV Powder for Injection: Each combipack contains 1 vial of sterile Ceftriaxone
Sodium USP equivalent to 2 g Ceftriaxone and 1 ampoule of 20 ml Water for Injection BP and
one 20 ml disposable syringe with needle.
Eracef ® vet 2 g IM Powder for Injection: Each combipack contains 1 vial of sterile Ceftriaxone
Sodium USP equivalent to 2 g Ceftriaxone and 1 ampoule of 7 ml 1% Lidocaine Hydrochloride
injection BP and one 10 ml disposable syringe with needle.
