Composition
Mel-Vet Injection: Each ml contains Meloxicam BP 5 mg.
Mel-Vet 2% Injection: Each ml contains Meloxicam BP 20 mg.
Mel-Vet Bolus: Each bolus contains Meloxicam BP 100 mg.
Pharmacology
Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam family. It acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, thereby exerting
anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic properties. Meloxicam has anti-endotoxic properties too.
Indication
Cattle: Inflammation, pain, fever, lameness, dehorning & castration. It is also used as supportive therapy in acute respiratory infection, diarrhea,
acute mastitis etc. Dog: Osteoarthritis. Pig: Inflammation & locomotor disorders.
Dosage & administration
Mel-Vet Injection
Route of administration: For SC/IV/IM injection only.
Cattle: 1 ml/10 kg body weight (0.5 mg/kg) SC/IV/IM as a single dose.
Dog: 1 ml/25 kg body weight (0.2 mg/kg) SC as a single dose.
Pig: 1 ml/10 kg body weight (0.5 mg/kg) SC as a single dose followed by 0.1 mg/kg orally daily for 2 weeks.
Mel-Vet 2% Injection
Route of administration: For SC/IV/IM injection only.
Cattle: 1 ml/40 kg body weight (0.5 mg/kg) SC/IV/IM as a single dose.
Dog: 0.2 ml/20 kg body weight (0.2 mg/kg) SC as a single dose.
Pig: 1 ml/40 kg body weight (0.5 mg/kg) SC as a single dose followed by 0.1 mg/kg orally daily for 2 weeks.
Mel-Vet Bolus
Route of administration: For oral administration only.
Cattle: 1 bolus/100 kg body weight (1 mg/kg) orally single dose.
Dog: 0.2 mg/kg body weight orally single dose for 1 day followed by 0.1 mg/kg from 2nd day.
Pig: After subcutaneous injection 0.1 mg/kg orally daily for 2 weeks.
Or, as directed by the registered Veterinary Physician.
Contraindications
Animals less than six weeks old. Animals hypersensitive to meloxicam. Contraindicated in animals with impaired renal, hepatic or cardiac
function.
Warning & precaution
Do not administer concurrently with steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (SAID) & other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID).
Side effects
Common side effects: A slight transient swelling at the injection site following SC injection may be seen.
Rare side effects: Prolong use may cause gastrointestinal lesions, inappetence, vomiting & diarrhea.
Use in pregnancy & lactation
May be used in pregnant & lactating animals. However, risk & necessity should be considered during administration of medicine in pregnant &
lactating animals.
Drug interactions
With medicine: May cause increased likelihood of bleeding if use in conjunction with corticosteroids, heparin, warfarin, aspirin, flunixin &
phenylbutazone.
With food & others: No interaction was found.
Overdose
In the event of an overdose symptomatic treatment should be initiated.
Withdrawal time
Cattle: Meat- Meat should not be consumed up to 15 days after using this drug. Milk- Milk should not be consumed up to 05 day after using this
drug. Pig: Meat- Meat should not be consumed up to 5 days after using this drug.
Storage
Store below 30° C temperature and dry place, protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
Packing
Mel-Vet Injection: 10 x 10 ml vial & 30 ml vial. Mel-Vet 2% Injection: 10 ml vial. Mel-Vet Bolus: Each box contains 10 x 4 boli.
