Product Description
Composition
Bolus: Each bolus contains Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride BP 500 mg.
Injection: Each ml contains Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride BP 20 mg.
Pharmacology
Phenadryl Vet is an antihistaminic drug. It competitively inhibits histamine release at H1 receptor by blocking H1 receptor, thereby
reducing allergic reaction symptoms. It also has substantial sedative, anti-cholinergic, anti-tussive and anti-emetic effects.
Indications
Phenadryl Vet is indicated for allergy of diverse origins such as- Cutaneous allergies, Urticaria , Angioneurotic edema, Relief of
coughing, Laminitis, Allergic reactions to medicaments, Anaphylactic shock, Insect bites, Eczema, Pruritis, Photosensitization.
Dosage and administration
Route of administration: IM/IV/oral.
Bolus
For oral administration only
Large animals: 1 bolus/125-250 kg body weight. Small animals: 1 mg/kg body weight. Dogs/Cats: 2-4 mg/kg body weight 2-3 times
daily.
Injection
For IM/IV use only.
Large animals: 1.25-2.50 ml/100 kg body weight. Small animals: 1 ml/40 kg body weight. Dog: 0.25 ml/5 kg body weight.
Cat: 0.1 ml/2 kg body weight.
Or, as directed by registered Veterinary Physician.
Contraindication
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride is contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to it.
Warning and precaution
Use cautiously if your animal is taking sedatives, trouble urinating, pregnant and lactating.
Side effects
Common Side effects: CNS depression (drowsiness), anticholinergic (dry mouth, urinary retention), diarrhea etc. may occur in some
cases.
Rare Side effects: Anaphylaxis, seizures, tachycardia.
Use in pregnancy & lactation
Use in pregnancy has not been determined. However, risk & necessity should be considered during administration in pregnant &
lactating animal.
Drug interaction
With medicine: Diphenhydramine should not be used with additional tranquilizing medications (metoclopramide) in animals that
experience a hyperactivity reaction.
With feed and others: Not known.
Overdose
Overdose can cause CNS stimulation (excitement to seizures) or depression (lethargy to coma), anticholinergic effects, respiratory
depression and death.
Withdrawal time
Meat- Meat must not be consumed up to 7 days after administration of this medicine & Milk- Milk must not be consumed up to 2 days
after administration of this medicine.
Storage
Store below 30° C temperature and dry place, protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
Packing
Bolus: Each box contains 10×4 Boli in blister strip. Injection: 10 ml & 30 ml vial.
