Composition
Each ml contains Tranexamic Acid BP 100 mg.
Pharmacology
Tranexamic acid is a synthetic derivative of lysine that inhibits fibrinolysis by blocking the lysine binding sites on plasminogen. Thus it prevents blood clot breakdown rather than promoting new clot formation by inhibiting both plasminogen activation & plasmin activity.
Indications
Tracid Vet is indicated for the prevention and control of haemorrhage, surgical haemorrhage, haematuria, bloody milk, bloody feces, uterine
haemorrhage, post-partum bleeding, nasal bleeding, accidental bleeding etc.
Dosage & administration
Route of administration: IM/IV/SC
For IM/IV/SC injection only.
Cattle/Horse: 1 ml/4-20 kg body weight.
Dog/Cat/Pig: 1 ml/7-10 kg body weight once/ twice daily.
As an Emetic
For IV injection only.
Dog/Cat: 1 ml/4 kg body weight by rapid injection.
Or, as directed by the Registered Veterinary Physician.
Contraindication
Tranexamic acid is contraindicated with a known hypersensitivity. Allergic reactions may be reported.
Side Effects
Common side effect: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, muscle pain, joint pain, muscle stiffness and weakness may be seen.
Rare side effect: Tranexamic acid may cause a severe allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis.
Warning and Precaution
Avoid infusion in hypersensitive animal. Tranexamic acid is not effective during massive bleeding.
Use in pregnancy & lactation
There is no impaired fertility or adverse effect on fetus.
Drug interactions
With medicine: Tranexamic acid may interact with anticoagulants and NSAIDS that may increase risk of bleeding.
With feed & others: Not known.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, changes in vision, changes in behavior, uncontrollable shaking, rash
etc.
Withdrawal time
Meat: Meat cannot be consumed after administration of this medicine for 2 days and Milk: Not known.
Storage
Store below 30° C temperature & dry place, protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
