Composition
WSP: Each gram contains Bromhexine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg.
Pharmacology
Bromhexine Hydrochloride is a mucolytic agent, which acts on the mucus by degrading the structure of mucopolysaccharide fibres making phlegm less viscous and thinner, thus eases expectoration. It is also effective for the treatment of amniotic fluid aspiration/pneumonia in
newborn calves.
Indication
Bromhexine Hydrochloride is indicated for the treatment of respiratory disorders associated with productive cough in livestock, Dogs, Cats & Pigs. These includes- Complicated Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CCRD), Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CRD), Infectious bronchitis, Laryngotracheitis, Infectious Coryza, Influenza, Pneumonia, Bronchopneumonia, Rhinitis and Cough etc.
Dosage & administration
WSP: For oral administration only.
Poultry: 1g/4-5 liter of drinking water once daily for 5-7 days.
Cattle: 1g/20 kg body weight once daily for 5 days, one bolus for 200 kg body weight.
Dogs: 2g/10 kg body weight twice daily for 5 days, (half bolus for 25 kg body weight)
Cats: 1g/10 kg body weight once daily for 7 days. Bolus: 1 mg/ kg body weight
Pigs: 0.2-0.5g/10 kg body weight half bolus for 100-250 kg body weight) once daily for 5 days.
Add to feed or drinking water immediately before administration.
Or, as directed by the Veterinary Physician.
Contraindication
Bromhexine Hydrochloride is contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to it.
Warning & precaution
Do not use in cases of pulmonary oedema.
Side effects
Common side effects: Headache, dizziness, sweating and skin rash.
Rare side effects: A transient rise in serum aminotransferase values may be seen.
Use in pregnancy & lactation
Bromhexine Hydrochloride crosses the placental barrier. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to pregnancy, fetal development, parturition or postnatal development. However, risk & necessity should be considered during administration in
pregnant & lactating animals.
Drug interaction
With medicine: Bromhexine Hydrochloride may be used in conjunction with antibiotics and/or sulphonamides & bronchodilators. It increases bioavailability of antibiotics oxytetracycline, spiramycin, tylosin, erythromycin, ampicillin, doxycycline, amoxicillin & cefuroxime.
With feed & others: No interaction was found with feed.
Overdose
Overdosing may cause toxicity in animals especially in calves if the dose rate is not based on their actual body weight or health status. No specific antidote is known, only symptomatic treatment is recommended.
Withdrawal time
Meat- Meat must not be consumed up to 1 day after administration of this medicine & Pigs: 0 (zero) day. Milk- Should not be used in cattle producing milk for human consumption.
Storage
Store below 30° C temperature and dry place, protected from light.
