Composition
Each ml contains Florfenicol INN 300 mg.
Pharmacology
Florfenicol is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic which iseffective against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.Florfenicol, a fluorinated derivative of chloramphenicol bacteriostatic antibiotic, acts by inhibiting protein synthesis bybinding with 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria.
Indication
It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of respiratory tractinfections in bovine due to Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurellamaltocida, Histophilus somni, bovine interdigital phlegmon (footrot, acute interdigital necrobacillosis, infectious pododermatitis)and acute outbreaks of respiratory disease in pigs.
Dosage & administration
Route of administration: IM/SC
Cattle
Prevention (SC): 2 ml/15 kg body weight, administered once.
Treatment (SC): 2 ml/15 kg body weight, administered once.
Treatment (IM): 1 ml/15 kg body weight; repeat 48 hours later.
Or, a single 40 mg/kg SC dose (in neck) may be used. Do not exceed 10 mL per injection site.
Swine (IM)
1 ml/20 kg body weight, twice at a 48 hours interval.
The injection should be given in the neck region. The dose should not exceed 3 ml per injection site.
Or as directed by the registered Veterinary physician.
Contraindication
Contraindicated animals hypersensitive to Florfenicol.
Warning & precaution
Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.
Side effects
Common side effects: Anorexia, decreased water consumption or diarrhea may occur. Rare side effects: Not known.
Use in pregnancy & lactation
The effects of Florfenicol on bovine reproductive performance, pregnancy & lactation have not been determined. However, risk &necessity should be considered during administration of medicine in pregnant & lactating animals.
Drug interaction
With medicine: Florfenicol may antagonize the action ofPenicillin, Aminoglycoside, Erythromycin, Clindamycin, Lincomycin & Tylosin.
With feed & others: Not known.
Overdose
Usually safe at recommended doses.
Withdrawal time
Cattle
For IM Route: Meat- Meat must not be consumed up to 28 days after administration of this medicine. Milk- Not known. For SC Route: Meat- Meat must not be consumed up to 38 days
after administration of this medicine. Milk- Not known.
Swine
Meat- Meat must not be consumed up to 18 days after administration of this medicine.
Storage
Store below 30º C temperature and dry place, protected from light.
Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
